Why I Won't Occupy A Shelter

Has it ever crossed your mind, that a homeless shelter, is another form of incarceration? It is a vicious cycle out there on the streets and in life, in general. Shelters are usually run by certain religious organizations. They have rules and regulations you must follow, while trapped under their control. If you are a single woman, you have the hardest time acquiring a bed. Women with children are first to receive accommodations. Men have their own shelters.

In San Diego there are about 4,000 homeless people and about a 1,000 beds in shelters. That leaves 3,000 people, on the streets each night. If you are new to the streets it is a scary experience. Under city laws you may sleep between 9pm and 5:30am. Then you must pack your belongings and disperse during the day. Walking around town with all your stuff, loaded in a cart, or lugged on your back. Unless you are one of the lucky one's and get a daily storage locker at Watermans.

The San Diego police want us out of Freedom Plaza. I would rather live in the streets, than a religious run shelter any day. Religion in my eyes is all about control. Control is why our country and world, is in utter shambles. Too many people live in poverty, while others bask in enormous amounts of resources. People are selfish, control freaks, that don't give a rats ass about their neighbors or even their own families. Lies have created, the absolute mess our country and world is in. Religion lies, people lie. Stop the lies and using a religious figure as your instant garbage disposal, for your lies. Start being honest NOW!

Kids Afraid of Cops, Wife Afraid of Guatanamo, Husband Wants to Occupy

I have heard this same excuse time and time again. I want to come down to occupy, but I am afraid of the police, that stand around like vultures ready to attack their prey. Today was another story about a man name Jim, who told his short story while he held his young son. Jim said he has visited us a few times, and felt occupy guilt. He wants to be down at Freedom Plaza with the occupiers but he has a family problem.

His children have seen the police brutality, going on, around the country towards the occupiers, on TV. His kids do not want to come, anywhere near Freedom Plaza, because they are afraid of being arrested, pepper sprayed and shot. Jim's wife is afraid he will be arrested and sent to Guantanamo and never see him again. But Jim recently received the ok by his wife, to occupy. His wife is tired of witnessing the police brutality, toward peaceful protesters. It is time to stand up and NOT shut up.

So Jim will be visiting occupy San Diego frequently. He is excited and passionate about his commitment to a movement that stands for his values. How many people have this same fear? Who knows, but I am sure many. What a picture the SDPD and all other police departments around the country, are portraying to the citizens of America. The utter cruelty of police officers towards peaceful protesters. Protesters voicing their concerns about the broken system in this country. Protesters that want to make a difference, in peoples lives now and for the future generations.

Time for the Hood to Occupy

Happening in Phoenix AZ:

Bulletin: Police in small numbers continue to destroy or “confiscate” (Steal) private property at OccupyPhoenix and elsewhere.

This is clearly the example of a police culture that intimidates and harasses the public trust...  Read more:   Occupy Oakland

Occupy Goes Underground

Since being evicted from parks across the country, Occupy Wall Street has been largely forced "underground," which may be advantageous for the group in the long run. Sitting in a park and awaiting imminent police raids, while initially constructive, had started to border on the repetitive and fatalistic. Camp, raid, jail. Camp, raid, jail. For police, destroying the order of Occupy was akin to shooting ducks in a barrel. But now, by dispersing from parks and splitting the movement into direct action cells, such as the one that just reclaimed a home in East New York, occupiers have forced police to try and hit multiple moving targets...  Read more:   In These Times

Boston Judge Rules Free Speech Doesn’t Count If Cops Need To Beat You

Judge Frances McIntyre lifted the restraining order preventing Boston Mayor Thomas Menino from gleefully sending in his minions to tear down the Occupy Boston encampment in Dewey Square, although the camp hasn’t yet been raided. Here’s the creepy stand-out line from the judge’s ruling: “Little in the way of expression is outlawed in the United States Constituion, but an act which incites forceful response is...  Read more:   Wonkette

Live Blog for #Occupy Movement: Police Retreat from Occupy SF Plus Boston Mayor Orders Occupy Boston to Leave

Less than twenty-four hours after having their camp cleared by San Francisco police, Occupy San Francisco held their ground at Justin Herman Plaza. The occupiers that aimed to regroup and even retake the plaza were surrounded Wednesday evening by at least seventy cops in riot gear. A General Assembly...

You Can Arrest An Idea

The bankers slept well. Their homes in Beverly Hills were not spotlighted by a noisy swarm of police helicopters, searchlights burning through the sanctity of the night, harassing the forlorn City Hall encampment of those who dared protest the banks' seizure of our government...

Scared SDPD Beefed Up Force For Arrival of Mini Tents

A rumor was circulating, that tents were going back up at Occupy San Diego. The women's group had been planning a soccer mom tent set up. Fifty tents were suppose to be put up at 5pm yesterday. The atmosphere was growing tense as the number of police officers drastically increased, along with paddy wagons. Boyd Long was there along with three captains. All entrances to the plaza, were manhandled by 10 officers standing arm to arm. There were at least a 100 officers at Occupy San Diego last night.

Earlier in the day a press release was given to many media outlets and they all showed up. I joking went up to some of the officers and said, "What if this was all a joke"? Their jaws dropped and faces looked a little puzzled. Finally, the direct action group leading this event showed up. We walked up the street and were briefed, on what to do. The tents we were putting up, were small 10in by 10in. They were so cute and the perfect joke for the occasion.

Fifty people from Occupy San Diego, marched down 3rd st. towards the civic center chanting we are the 99%, we are the 99%. Upon approaching the plaza, we could see the excessive police force, guarding the plaza, like plastic military men standing at attention. Their eyes wide, mouths dropping, as the watched us carry mini tents, not big enough for your dog to sleep in, into what we call freedom plaza. The eruption of cheers and laughter filled the air.

This was a victory for Occupy San Diego. This was an embarrassment for the SDPD. Can you imagine what they thought and the amount of money they spent policing us yesterday? Maybe we found a way to play this game too. Make it fun, funny, a joke, like the three stooges comedy show. Lighten things up and humor them. So friends, get your thinking caps on and lets laugh a little more while we change the world.
