Concerned Citizens Bring SDPD's Behavior To Citizens Review Board

What will it take to stop the harassment, intimidation and out right abuse of authority by the SDPD? It will take a new watch dog group called Occupy. Since October 7, 2011 Occupy San Diego has been battling the SDPD and their dirty dog tactics and utter discrimination against a group of people wanting to bring change to a corrupt system. Last night about forty occupiers from San Diego attended the citizens review board meeting held at the Malcom X library on Market Street.

Not only has the occupy movement in San Diego witnessed and first hand experienced the abuse of power by the SDPD, they have seen how the homeless in San Diego are being picked on and pushed out. Who is directing this violent behavior? The mayor, city council, the chief of police, who is it asked Ray Lutz? Because the orders have to come from somewhere. Ray Lutz also told the board members that out of the hundred and fifty plus arrests, most of the charges have been dropped or our pending and have a year to be submitted. So what the police are doing is stealing the occupiers money, playing games with the judicial system and blatantly harassing people.

About fifteen speakers spoke to the board members with purpose, passion and conviction about their concerns that the SDPD has serious issues of police brutality and discrimination problems. Fish brought to the attention of the board that police officers need a psyche evaluation. Mike Garcia told the board he was arrested for sitting in a chair and handing out flyer's. Stephanie Jennings told how she was tackled and thrown to the ground, because she touched the yellow caution tape. Mike a veteran spoke about how he took an oath as a military officer to defend foreign and domestic terrorist.

In Hartford CT three officers and one sergeant were arrested by the FEDS yesterday, for racial profiling and abuse to mexicans. So this problem is not just in San Diego, but country wide. I know that being a police officer is not easy and they have to deal with many people that pose a threat. But at the civic center people are sitting in circles discussing how to make this country and world a better place. Not how to blow it up or violently attack the police. We did not come here to fight the police, but to fight corruption in politics, corporations and the banking industry. Nothing to do with the police. But they have shown they are also corrupt and need to be held accountable for their actions.

It was a successful evening. I left feeling we were effective in getting some board members to understand the SDPD are discriminating against a political group. They have been using excessive force and they need to be addressed with repercussions to those that have abused their power and authority. I have also seen how the homeless are being kicked around and oppressed by the SDPD. That is why they cannot get out of their situation. So if you are a concerned citizen, join the new watch dogs in town, Occupy San Diego.

Occupy Job Bank

Are you looking for work? So am I. I started occupying at Occupy San Diego October 11, 2011. Since then, I have volunteered many hours with the occupation doing a variety of odd jobs. I made a choice in my life not to get a job because of a personal challenge going on in my life. I decided last week, I would try one more time to see if that challenge had subsided and venture back out in the job market.

I applied last Tuesday, to work at a golf tournament the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and did not hear back from them. The next day I went into businesses in downtown San Diego asking if they were hiring and had no luck. The next day I made a sign that read 'Employment Wanted Now' and stood on Broadway and 2nd st. One man asked what kind of work I was looking for and if I had a resume, other people wished me good luck and one jerk said 'they are hiring at Wendy's!'

Yesterday at Occupy San Diego's GA we broke up into groups and discussed things we would like to see implemented in Occupy San Diego. I brought up the idea of a Occupy Job Bank. Many people waved their hands in the air as a gesture of 'good idea.' I also mentioned the idea of Occupy Job Bank Protest, where people carried signs that read 'Hire me for' and then listed skills they had or positions they were looking for and pass out resumes, on busy corners in downtown San Diego.

Other idea's that came up were to make crafts and sell them at local farmers markets. I want to work, I just had enough of a personal issue that was affecting my work situation. I am going to try one more time and so can you. If you are looking for work leave a comment about what you are looking for. If you are looking for workers, leave a comment about what type of work you need. Let's work together to make this happen.

Occupy's 8 Demands

1. Congress Pass HR 1489 ("Return to Prudent Banking Act") This reinstates many provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act.The repeal of provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999 effectively removed the separation that previously existed between investment banking which issued securities and commercial banks which accepted deposits. The deregulation also removed conflict of interest prohibitions between investment bankers serving as officers of commercial banks. Most economists believe this repeal directly contributed to the severity of the Financial crisis of 2007-2011 by allowing Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depostiors' money that was held in commercial banks owned or created by the investment firms.

2. Use Congressional Authority and Oversight to Ensure Appropriate Federal agencies Fully Investigate and Prosecute the Wall Street Criminals.
who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis in the following notable cases: (insert list of the most clear cut criminal actions). There is a pretty broad consensus that there is a clear group of people who got away with millions / billions illegally and haven't been brought to justice. Boy would this be long overdue and cathartic for millions of Americans. It would also be a shot across the bow for the financial industry. If you watch the solidly researched and award winning documentary film "Inside Job" that was narrated by Matt Damon (pretty brave Matt) and do other research, it wouldn't take long to develop the list.

3. Congress Enact Legislation To Protect Our Democracy By Reversing The Effects Of The Citizen United Supreme Court Decision.
Which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can pretty much buy elections. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contrbrute to politicial campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media. This legislation should also Re-Establish the Public Airwaves in the U.S. so that Political Candidates are Given Equal Time for Free at Reasonable Intervals in Daily Programming During Campaign Season. The same should extend to other media.

4. Congress Pass the Buffet Rule on Fair Taxation so the Rich and Corporations Pay their Fair Share and Close Corporate Tax Loop Holes and Enact a Prohibition on Hiding Funds Off Shore. No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If we have a really good negotiating position and have the place surrounded, we could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher... back to what they once were in the 50's and 60's.

5. Congress Completely Revamp the Securities and Exchange Commission.
And staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected. This agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded. It currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall Street insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating. Hmmmm.

6. Congress Pass Specific and Effective Laws Limiting the Influence of Lobbyists and Eliminating the Practice of Lobbyists Writing Legislation that Ends up on the Floor of Congress.

7. Congress Passing "Revolving Door Legislation" Legislation Eliminating the Ability of Former Government Regulators Going to Work for Corporations that they once Regulated.
So, you don't get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year. While they're at it, Congress should pass specific and  effevtive laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.

8. Eliminate "Personhood" Legal Status for Corporations.
The film "The Corporation" has a great section on how corporations won "personhood status". The 14th amendment was supposed to give equal rights to African Americans. It said you "can't deprive a person of life, liberty or property without due process of law". Corporation lawyers wanted corporations to have more power so they basically said "corporations are people." Amazingly, between 1890 and 1910 there were 307 cases brought before the court under the 14th amendment, 288 of these brought by corporations and only 19 by African Americans. 600,000 people were killed to get rights for people and then judges applied those rights to capital and property while stripping them from people. It's time to set this straight.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.

They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.

They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the work place based on age, the color or one's skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.

They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.

They have continuously sought to strip employees of the rights to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.

They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers' health care and pay.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.

They have sold our privacy as a commodity.

They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.

They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.

They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.

They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.

They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.

They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people's lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.

They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.

They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.

They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.

They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

There are three levels of law enforcement interactions and safe ways to handle each encounter. There are three sets of magic words to use during an encounter.

1) Casual Conversation - During a law enforcement encounter, ask if you are being detained or arrested. If you are not being detained or arrested, walk away.

2) Detention - If you are being detained, ask why! Make them cite the law - and remember what they say.

3) Arrest - Say the first two sets of magic words: "I choose to remain silent!" and "I want to see a lawyer!" Remember to remain silent. Law enforcement may try to trick you into talking. Keep in mind they are highly trained in gathering information and are allowed to lie in order to trick you into talking.

The third set of magic words:

1) I do not consent to a search! If the officer says "Do you mind if I look in your purse, bag, home or car?" You say, "I do not consent to a search." If the officer say: "Why not? Are you hiding something?" You say: "I believe in my Constitutional right to privacy, and I do not consent to a search."

Note: This probably will not stop an officer from searching you, but it can help get evidence thrown out of court.

Day 1: Get A Job

If you are a participant in the Occupy movement and have ever marched with a sign or protested on a corner, someone has probably yelled at you "Get a job." Many people in the movement have jobs. Others like myself don't. Personal circumstances in my life, stopped me from getting a job. I spent many hours volunteering for Occupy San Diego since October 11, 2011. Many people have been more than generous delivering food for us. Others have given money specifically for me. But it is not enough to get a room and feed yourself on.

So it is time to get a job. I went on craigslist and saw my dream job. Working at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. What could be a better way to re institute myself in the work arena, than serving drinks and food to some hot golfers? I emailed the ad and received a reply. I replied back and then set up an interview in Del Mar. With no car, I took bus 50 to bus 101 and was dropped off on PCH. I walked 1.5 - 2 miles to get to the Hampton Inn for the interview. We all filled out a bunch of paper work, listened to Jamie's spiel and then were told we could go. Four to five hours to get there and back to get a job!

Its been at least 24 hours since the interview and they start working tomorrow. Doesn't look promising, but who knows maybe some people won't work out. The job was only for 10 days or so, but it would have been a start. Today I pounded the pavement again. I went into businesses in downtown San Diego asking if they were hiring. Some said no, others maybe, some yes. These days businesses have online applications, some want a hand delivered resume and others have their own applications to fill out. I am making a list of all places I have been and filled out resumes or applications for.

When you are homeless you have obstacles such as where to take a shower, store your bags and belongings and get copies of your resume printed with no money, but a big smile? I have a BA from Long Beach State in Physical Education. I owned and operated a successfully coffeehouse for five years. I have five years experience with toastmasters winning speech contests and developing skills for leadership. I have been writing blogs since 2008. But great challenges have put me on the street.

The next time someone tells me to get a job, I can say how many applications I have filled out and interviews I have been on. My new sign will say on one side "Employment Wanted Now." The other side, the number of resumes I have sent out and interviews I have been on. When someone tells me to get a job, I will tell them, give me a job or shut the blank up!

Martin Luther King Jr's Dream Is Still Alive At Occupy

Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." I talked to a man named Michael that marched in the MLK parade in Long Beach, CA on Saturday. He told me it was a very exciting day for him. Occupiers from encampments through out southern California showed up in solidarity. They marched through the streets in Long Beach that passed the most oppressed and poverty stricken, called 'The Ghetto.'

People were lined up in masses, cheering us on and chanting, 'We are the 99%, We are the 99%." These are the real 99% in this country. The Black, Hispanic and Asians that live below poverty level. People that clean houses, wash cars, work in fast food chains or wall marts. People that make minimum wage which calculates to $16,000 a year, when a CEO makes $16,000 an hour. It was a stark contrast between marches, through gas lamp in downtown San Diego, where people are eating and drinking at nice restaurants. These people where standing in front of run down apartments, homes and businesses.

He could see it in their faces and hear conviction in their voices, that Martin Luther King Jr's dream was not finished. It was flourishing again, with another movement called Occupy. Injustice and inequality still prevails in America. Democracy is not going to the polls every four years. It is taking direct action and making democracy work for all Americans. That is what the Occupy movement has been doing, from Wall Street to your street since September of 2011.

On Sunday Occupy San Diego marched in another MLK parade this time on Harbor Dr. in downtown San Diego. There were about 200 vibrant marchers that stood in solidarity with Veterans for Peace, Occupy the Hood, Occupy El Barrio, and Occupy San Diego. As we marched down Harbor Dr. we chanted 'Hey hey, ho ho corporate greed has gotta go, Hey hey ho ho, corporate greed has gotta go.' People where yelling Occupy and chanting along with us. It was the most powerful reception I have seen from bystanders, since the New Years Eve march.

Grandmas, grandpas, kids, parents, excited to see us, read our signs and chant with us. These are the people that need our voices to radiate to congress, mayors, city council members telling them we will not sit down and shut up. We are the people, not corporations. We have voices and they must be listened to. And if you are not willing to listen to us, we will Mic Check you, to get your attention and let you know. "We are Occupy, we are never gonna die, when you try and take our stuff, we will only multiply. We are Occupy, we are never gonna die, when you try to kick us out, we will only multiply."

My Farewell To Terrorists and Why I Occupy

Have you ever had a terrorist in your life, that just would not go away? A terrorist is someone, or a group of people that wreck havoc on your life. They lie, torment and participate in emotional, mental and financial abuse towards you, while demanding it is all your fault. I have been dealing with venomous terrorists in my life, for twelve years. It is time to put an end to their blatant lies and abuse and reclaim my life today, how about you??

Life is short, and can be very unfair. People lie and lies create a tangled web of insanity that can subtract many years from your life. This is your life, no one elses. You get to choose how to live it. Control destroys, just look at how corporations treat their employees! Is your boss, partner or friend controlling? If so, they are the terrorist in your life.  Many people grow up in dysfunctional homes and carry those traits to other relationships, creating a viscous cycle of nightmares and chaos. Stop the insanity now.

How am I going to make this happen and you can also. First action, stop communicating and ignore those involved. If they don't give a damn about you, don't give a damn about them. Second action, find people you trust and feel confident, are in your best interest. Be cautious, but not extreme in this process. Third action, take baby steps each day, to move forward, not backwards. Look for work, write, exercise, spend time with mentors. Take actions that will add to your life, Not subtract from it.

Today I am saying farewell to all who have participated in anyway, adversely towards me and my life, so can you. No matter the why, it is not acceptable to control any one's life, ever! One thing I am sick and tired of hearing is 'It is gods plan.' Folks if you believe in god, that is your choice. I don't! I believe people need to stop using their instant garbage disposal, 'god' and start being accountable for their actions. Then and only then, will things change in this world. Religion is a cop out, to your misbehavior.

I came upon the Occupy movement after landing in San Diego. I had just spent the summer in Minnesota and then went on a short journey to Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and took the greyhound down through VA, TN, and MO where I visited an old friend that worked at a coffeehouse I owned. I have experienced the power of corrupt judges, lawyers and people. What has gone on in my life for the last 12 years is beyond my comprehension, but I have convictions people get what they give.

My passion for occupy continues, even though there are challenges within the Occupy San Diego Movement. Just because you might look good, does not mean your life is a bowl of cherries. In fact is could be utter hell. I have compassion for the people on the street, because I know it is not always your fault that you landed there. Others actions can play a big part in the whole picture. What I do know is, people lie like cowards and someday might be accountable for those lies. That's why I occupy! So should you.

Police use New Harassment Technique with Occupy Tampa

About a dozen Occupy Tampa demonstrators were having a meeting around the campfire last night when four patrol cars pulled up across the street.  A smiling police officer opened one back door, and out stepped a disgruntled 40ish-year-old woman in a mini-skirt. After our march on Sat. a young man in our group said he and another man saw a similar incident. A man got out of a police car and joined us in the march. I heard someone shout in the group there is an undercover in the group. You never know. I heard someone in our group works with the feds and he has been there since the beginning. Beware!

SDPD Assualt on Women

Yesterday as we marched into a busy civic center, after a long march that began at Children's Park in downtown San Diego we encountered the massive police force that surrounded us on the march. They placed yellow caution tape between occupiers and people that were heading into to see Jerry Sienfeld at the civic theater. This divide was another indication of the discrimination the SDPD has against Occupy San Diego. In the process of this event women that had come to civic center plaza last night to sing Occu-Pella had just finished and were caught between this caution tape.

Stephanie a middle aged women, nicely dressed, accidentally bumped into a police officer. He arrested her immediately. Her charge was 'battery on a police officer' and bail is set at $10,000. Shortly after this incident another women was taken down to the ground and aggressively handled by many SDPD. They were twisting and turning her arms and hands while she lay fast first into the concrete. She was not resisting, as the officers roughly handled her. I tried to get her name as the officers escorted her out of the plaza, but she did not say anything.

Before the march the SDPD warned us that people could be cited and arrested for drums and musical instruments, but did not give us specific codes we would be breaking. They also stated if people littered and put pamphlets anywhere you could also be cited or arrested. It is getting to the point of, what can we do? During the march as we turned off Broadway and headed south on 1st st past the federal building, a man came dashing into the march and grabbed Chaplain Ron's sign and pushed him to the ground. He was not getting up, but the police told us we needed to continue marching or be arrested. An ambulance arrived on the scene and I hear he was taken to the VA hospital.

Last night as we sat around the civic center a fire truck pulled up and walked over to a few occupiers. They helped Angel up and walked him to the ambulance that arrived on the scene. I over heard a police officer talking to a fireman, he said the SDPD has not been able to do their job for the citizens of San Diego, due to them, having to watch the occupation. Shortly after I went by and told the officer we did not need to be watched and he said in a very aggressive tone 'yes you do'. I reiterated we did not need to be babysat and again he said we did. This officer believes we are the terrorist. I said what about those on your patrol that harm women? One SDPD was recently convicted of how many accounts of abusing women? He shut up!

It is time for men and especially women to stand up against this kind of brutality by police officers. Our protest is about the corrupt 1% hiding in their big homes, who are the real criminals of this country. But their money keeps them safe and out of jail. Is is not acceptable for police officers to use the force they did to arrest these women last night.
